PUPPY POWER NEEDED

PEOPLE in mid Cheshire with time on their hands are being urged to make the most of it by training puppies.

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association urgently needs volunteers to care for and educate young canines in their own homes, from six weeks old to about 12 months, in preparation for their guide dog training.

Volunteer development advisor Shirley Cohen said: "We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to become puppy walkers to help prepare our pups for the life transforming work ahead of them as guide dogs for visually impaired people.

"Puppy walking is challenging and a big commitment but our volunteers find it rewarding and worthwhile. Professional support and help is always at hand to ensure the pet is successfully prepared for the next stage of guide dog training."

Volunteers, who must be at home for most of the day and have access to a car, must prepare puppies for their working life by teaching them basic obedience and house training and taking them on public transport.

Basic equipment, veterinary and feeding expenses will all be covered.

For further details, email shirley.cohen@guidedogs.org.uk or call Shirley on 0113 284 4224 or 07990 540228.
