Hot stuff for thousands of rose fete spectators THOUSANDS turned out on Lakehouse Field and along the route to enjoy the Weaverham Rose Fete, which organisers have hailed a huge success.
Organisers are expecting the event to have raised more money for Weaverham community groups than last year.
Betty Dudley was a special visitor at the event. Betty was Weaverham Rose Fete’s first queen from 1927.
However, the hot weather took its toll on bystanders with a total of nine people collapsing along the parade route.
“Some people didn’t bring inhalers out with them and people weren’t drinking enough water.”
Meanwhile Laura Baldwin was crowned Weaverham Rose Queen by Lisa White, Miss Vale Royal.
Winner of the senior dancing troupe was the Buckley Belles. The junior award went to the Hilltones while the Margarittes won the tiny category. The tots section award went to the Isle of Man Onchan Gems.
The best troupe on parade was the Winsford Sensations juniors and the Ron Holt Memorial Trophy was won by the Weaverham Corvettes Juniors.
Dance 4 Fun won the best dressed float and Richard Bennett won the fancy dress as a Mexican.
Best visiting queen on parade and in the arena was the Winsford Carnival Queen while the best dressed vehicle was the visiting queen from Chapel-en-le-Frith.
The fete was opened by Hazel Watts, head of The Russett School in Weaverham, who was a former rose fete queen.
Bands involved in the fete included Frodsham Silver Band and the Royal Premiers.
Organiser Pat Palfreyman said: “We want to thank everyone who helped and police who sent six special constables along.
“The whole thing went beautifully. It was really great.”
