Village discovers 101 reasons to enjoy its big day
DALMATIANS made an appearance at Antrobus Rose Fete as part of the event’s theme of book characters.
New queen Charlotte Harris, 11, led the parade accompanied by numerous members of the Women’s Institute disguised as the spotty dogs.
Villager Sue Yeoman crowned the queen on the village hall field.
There then followed fancy dress and painting competitions for various age groups.
Kim Dodgshon won the nursery fancy dress while Josh Foster won the 10 to 11 age group painting with a painting of Bart and Homer Simpson.
This was followed by a bird of prey display by Gauntlet, country dancing and the school choir, which involved the whole school.
The highlight of the day was headteacher David Batchelor’s revenge on fete chairman Paul Dodgshon for the bush tucker trial, which he took part in last year.
This time they faced each other in a Sumo wrestling contest and in a seesaw affair David ran out the winner two bouts to one.
There was also an auction with two star prizes being VIP trips to the Bentley factory at Crewe (courtesy of Bentley Motors) and Bolton Wanderers for match day hospitality (courtesy of Wanderers’ chairman Phil Gartside).
Paul said: “We would like to express our deep and grateful thanks to not only these but also our many other supporters and volunteers.”
