New faces buoy Park

WINNINGTON Park RUFC are planning for promotion this season after narrowly missing out last term.

The players returned to begin their pre-season preparations last week and they were joined by a number of new faces.

Former North of England colt Ben Richardson has returned to Burrows Hill, while utility back Rob Burchall has also signed for Park after successful stint at Bradford.

Ex-centre Neil Welch is also training with the squad.

Spokesman John Pickering revealed the club are in talks with several other players.

He said: "We are keen to stick to our amateur ethos though, preferring to invest money in developing homegrown players."

Coach Mark Warr has agreed to carry on another year.

He has invited a number of last season's Cheshire Colt Plate winners to train with the first team.

Park vice captain Mark Patterson said: "It bodes well for the club that youngsters want to train with the senior sides, they can only learn from the experienced players."

Training takes place at Burrows Hill on Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm.

For further details call Mark Patterson on 07747 756124 or Dave Caine on 07977 298017.
