Swimmers face test
FIVE Winsford ASC swimmers are going for gold over the next two weeks. The quintet have been selected to represent their club at the ASA National Age Group and Youth Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield. Head coach Dave Pettengell says he's proud of them. He said: "They are a credit to the club. "They've trained really hard this year and the work and effort they have put in has got them to the nationals. "I wish them the best of luck." Middlewich swimmer Joanna Waterman, 12, takes part in the 200m breaststroke, while 13-year-old Lydia Woodward, from Hartford, swims in the 100m freestyle. The pair, who are set to compete in the ASA Age Group Championships, are still on a high after scooping six gold medals between them for Winsford ASC at the Holywell Sprint earlier this month. Lydia also set three new meet records, in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 100m individual medley. Abbie Henderson, 14, swims in the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle in the ASA Youth Championships, as well as the 400m individual medley. Fellow Winsford ASC members Rob Gator, 17, has entered the 800m and 3k freestyle, while James Cowburn takes part in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle, 100m and 200m backstroke, the 200m and 400m individual medley.
