Magnificent performance

I DON'T think I've ever witnessed such an emotive, joyful and splendid concert as the one held at Northwich Memorial Hall on July 11. Full marks to Sir John Deane's College for showcasing the musical talents of so many local young people.

The concert was the idea of Alison Richards to celebrate the 10 years she's been head of music at Sir John Deane's. She gave former music students the chance to come back and play or sing with the college again. In the event, more than 180 past and present students turned up for the fabulous reunion celebration concert.

As well as superb singing from various choirs, there were chamber ensembles, a concert band, string ensemble, wind ensemble, jazz combo and full concert college orchestra.

If these weren't riches enough, a special guest appearance by the wind band of the County High School Leftwich triumphed with a perfect programme that included Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and the 1812 Overture.

The evening climaxed with all 180 performers rendering Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and Land of Hope and Glory - a perfect rounding off which had the packed memorial hall audience rising to its feet and joining in.

Northwich is indeed blessed to have such a vibrant college as Sir John Deane's and to have such inspirational specialist staff. A rousing cheer too for the excellent wind band of County High School Leftwich.

Truly magnificent and unforgettable.
