Borough is ready to pay tribute to the victims of conflict

VETERANS, families and friends, young and old, will stand side by side this Sunday, November 14, to remember and pay tribute to those who died for their country.

Remembrance Sunday services, organised by members of branches of the Royal British Legion, will be held across the Northwich area where the Last Post will be played and a two-minute silence observed.

In Northwich, the parade will assemble in the Crum Hill car park by Northwich Police Station from 9.30am, leaving at 10.30am.

The parade, which will be led by the Northwich ATC Band, will go via Chesterway, Kingsway and Victoria Road to the war memorial, outside the council offices.

The Rev Paul Dawson, of St Helen's Church, will lead the service, which starts at 10.50am.

Wreaths will be laid by many organisations including the Royal British Legion, Burma Star Association, Rotary clubs, the Salvation Army, Vale Royal CVS and Merseyside Regional Ambulance Service.

Northwich Mayor Clr Mel Slater and the town's MP, Mike Hall, will also lay wreaths.

In Weaverham, the parade will assemble outside the shops in Northwich Road at 2.30pm and move off at 2.40pm for a service to be held at St Mary's Church at 3pm. The Rev Michael Ridley will take the service.

There will also be a short service at the war memorial outside St Mary's Church at 11am tomorrow, Thursday.

People should assemble by the memorial at 10.45am.

Meanwhile on Remembrance Sunday in Sandiway, the parade will assemble outside the shops in Mere Lane at 10.15am.

It will march off at 10.30am via Mere Lane, Weaverham Road and Norley Road to St John's Church.

Then there will be the laying of wreaths and a two-minute silence will start at 11am.

In Davenham, a parade will assemble at the Royal British Legion at 10am and leave for a service at St Wilfrid's Parish Church, which will take place at 10.30am.

After the service, wreaths and crosses will be laid at the memorial.

In Barnton the parade will assemble at the legion headquarters, in Meadow Drive, at 10am and leave at 10.10am for a service at Christ Church, Church Road.

Escorts and standard bearers are invited to a rehearsal, which takes place at the church this Friday, November 12 at 6pm.

In Moulton, the parade will leave Beehive Corner at the junction of Jack Lane and Main Road at 9.45am for a service to be held at St Stephen's Church. Wreaths will be laid at the memorial at 11am.

In Lostock, a service will be held at St John's Church, Station Road, at 10am, which will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial in the churchyard at 11am.

The Rev Harry Stratton will take the service.

In Hartford, the parade will assemble at the Royal British Legion headquarters in Bradburns Lane at 9.30am.

The parade, led by the South Cheshire Pipe Band, will then march off to the parish church at 9.45am for a service at 10am.

At 11am the remembrance will be at the war memorial, including the laying of wreaths and at 11.15am the parade will reassemble to march back to Legion.

In Rudheath, the service will take place at Rudheath Cemetery at 2.30pm.
