LACH DENNIS WI
PRESIDENT Olive Reed welcomed members to the July meeting of Lach Dennis WI and reported that the recent garden party at her home had been most successful. Members enjoyed good weather for their evening ramble at Brereton, concluding with a meal at The Bear's Head. Members were reminded of arrangements for the visit to Wirral on August 23. Lower Peover WI's president had represented Lach Dennis WI at the recent NFWI annual meeting at Cardiff and her report was read by Valerie Bowyer. The speaker was Helen Carey, former Cheshire federation and national president. She brought along her new book Bows of Burning Gold, which promotes the continuing importance of the Women's Institute to the general public. The president thanked Helen for her talk. A competition for a bookmark was won by Vera Hardman, with Heather Pearson second and Joan Faragher third. The next meeting will be at Lach Dennis Village Hall on August 14 at 7.30pm, when Martin Nunn will talk about Hotter Shoes.
