ENGLISH SPEAKING UNION

ON July 1, a most enjoyable garden party was held at the home of Jeanne Pumfrey, from the Vale Royal (Cheshire) Branch of the English Speaking Union. Once again the weather was magnificent and members were all able to sit outside in her lovely garden.

This was a fundraising event to sponsor students in their gap year.

Laura Michaelson, who studied at The Grange School, is going to Peru with Project Trust for a year, and Katy Allen who studied at Sir John Deane's, is going to southern India for a year, also with Project Trust.

Sarah Brookes from Sir John Deane's is going to central Africa with the African Conservation Experience and fellow Sir John Deane's pupil Ian Patten is going to Fiji for six months with Frontier Marine Research.

The next branch meeting is on Tuesday, September 19, at Fourways Restaurant, Delamere, at noon and will cost £11.50.

This is a meeting combining the annual meeting with a talk by Alison Okell who spent her gap year in Japan.

For details about the ESU, call Alex Southcombe on 01606 889868.
