LITTLE LEIGH WI

MEMBERS and visitors were welcomed to the annual strawberry and wine evening held at the July meeting of Little Leigh WI. This was combined with the flower and plant show.

A special welcome was extended to the two judges from Dutton WI, and to Jean Wilkinson of Antrobus WI.

Maureen Eves gave details of members' night on August 2, when members will meet at Hodge Lane Nursery for a walk and garden talk.

Janet Whalley was congratulated on taking part and completing the St Luke's Hospice midnight walk and raising more than £300.

Jean Wilkinson gave an interesting talk explaining how much salt is hidden in a lot of the food we eat, and urging everyone to take special notice of food labelling.

Members and guests then enjoyed strawberries and cream and a glass of wine before taking part in a special raffle.

To end the evening, the president presented the principle awards of the show as follows: best of class flower arranging, Nesta Butterworth; flowers and plants, Margaret Smith; fruit and vegetables, Ann Antrobus. Cups for most points: flower arranging, Terri Ellis; flowers and plants, Terri Ellis; and fruit and vegetables, Bernadette O'Donnel.

Terri Ellis won the cup for most points in show.
