March of the Penguins (Cert U)

Steven Hallmark

IT'S amazing the fuss that this wildlife documentary has caused.

It is, after all, only a wildlife documentary.

A good example of the genre, but so are the David Attenborough films for the BBC and you don't see American fundamentalist Christians holding them in such high esteem.

The advantage Penguins has, as far as creating a cinematic experience, is Morgan Freeman doing the voiceover and a beautiful classical music score. With these advantages even brainless dross like Big Brother would seem interesting.

It is a pretty amazing task to film in the plummeting temperatures of Antarctica and the French film crew have quite rightly been praised for their work. What they have created is a fascinating insight into a startling world.

If you want to watch a very good wildlife documentary then this is the film for you. Don't expect a life-changing experience though.
